The Amaravati farmers, who started a protest in Andhra Pradesh, took their demand of revoking three capitals proposal of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government to Delhi.

The farmers, who sacrificed their land for the development of Amaravati as the State Capital during the regime of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) wanted the same now.  However, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP Government in 2019, proposed three capitals, Visakhapatnam, and Amaravati Kurnool.

In regard to this, the Amaravati farmers took the protest to Delhi and staged a protest in New Delhi.  Leaders and workers of Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi (APS), which is spearheading the movement against the proposed three capitals, organised the sit in at Jantar Mantar, Delhi.

They demanded the YSRCP Government drop its move to develop three capitals and fulfil the commitments made to the people of Amaravati.   They raised With the slogan of ‘Dharani Kota to Erra Kota’, the APS organised the protest to mark three years of the announcement of the YSRCP Government for trifurcation of the state capital.

APS President Mr. Shiva Reddy, Secretary Mr. G. Tirupati Rao and other leaders staged the protest to highlight their demand in the national capital. They also urged the political parties in the national capital to support the protest and take part.

In Andhra Pradesh also, the Maha Padayatra was organised by the farmers’ committee and Joint Action Committee (JAC) with the permission of the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC.)

Joined by the people of Amaravati, the Amaravati Maha Padayatra was organised by the Amaravati Conservation Committee and the Capital United Action Committee. The padayatra started as a move against the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, which proposed three state capitals, instead of Amaravati.

The Amaravati capital issue is a problem for the farmers of 28 villages who sacrificed their lands.  In 2014, after Andhra Pradesh and Telangana emerged as two independent states, villagers and farmers of Amaravati gave up their lands to the then ruling Government, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) for the development of Amaravati as the Andhra Pradesh Capital.

The matter is still unresolved with the constant protests and dharna of the farmers from Amaravati.
