On the 17th of December, 2020 the Amaravati movement completed one year of agitation against the three capitals of Andhra Pradesh.

On the same day last year (the 17th of December 2019,) the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) proposed to have three capitals for Andhra Pradesh.

However, the residents of Amaravati, including farmers who gave a piece of their lands to build Amaravati as the State Capital, protested.

Farmers, women and locals are fighting against the State Government’s decision of not keeping Amaravati as the only Capital of Andhra Pradesh.

People are protesting, holding dharnas, taking out rallies and even conducting silent protests following the guidelines of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

Even the infected did not let the protesting spirit of these farmers and people fade, resulting in one year completion of the protest.

The protests have been going on in villages of Tulluru, Velagapudi, Rayapudi, Thallapale and Bethapudi.

The people of Amaravati are likely to continue the protest until the State Government accepts and implements a new order saying Amaravati as the only capital.

In regard to today’s one year completion of the protests, the TDP and people of Amaravati organised huge public rallies.

Public meeting would be held today under the kuname ‘Jana Rana Beri’ on the occasion of the one year for the Amaravati movement.

According to sources, the JAC leaders have already completed arrangements for the event at Rayapudi.

The public meeting is scheduled to be held from 10 A.M., to 5:00 P.M.

The Telugu Desam Party National President Chandrababu Naidu and others were present at the event.

Later, farmers and women from the villages of Amaravati lock to this Janabheri.

Political opposition parties like the Communists Party (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) CPI state secretaries P. Madhu, K. Ramakrishna, Andhra Pradesh Congress Commission and chief Shailajanath and Tulsi Reddy also support the farmers.

Meanwhile, the State police cordoned off the area where Janabheri Sabha was going and imposed restrictions.

Stay tuned for further updates.
